House Democrats from the Oversight Committee spoke to reporters on Friday, providing an update on former President Bill Clinton’s depositon on Jeffrey Epstein. Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA) said Clinton set the right tone during his deposition before the committee regarding his past association with Jeffrey Epstein, describing the proceedings as civil and focused on facts rather than spectacle.
Khanna noted that the former president opened by stating that no one is above the law and acknowledged the committee’s authority to call him to testify and ask difficult questions. According to Khanna, Clinton answered those questions directly and without evasion.
At the same time, Khanna sharply criticized his Republican colleagues’ decision to call in former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to testify before the committee on Thursday, pointing out that she had no involvement with the disgraced financier. Khanna said he chose not to attend the proceedings because he viewed the treatment of her as inappropriate and politically motivated.
Khanna Calls On Trump, Lutnick, and ‘Epstein Class’ To Testify Before Congress
Khanna said Democratic members and counsel centered their questioning on survivors and sought to establish basic facts while pressing the former president on difficult issues. He described the deposition as orderly and substantive, saying Clinton’s willingness to appear and respond should serve as a precedent.
Looking ahead, Khanna argued that the same standard should apply to others whose names appear in the Epstein files. He called on President Donald Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, along with others he described as part of the “Epstein class,” to testify before the committee on their relationship with Epstein.
“That’s the only way we’re going to have healing and accountability,” Khanna concluded.
