Barbara Rush, the iconic 1950s actress best known for her roles in “It Came From Outer Space” and “When Worlds Collide,” passed away this week at the age of 97.

The actress’s daughter, Claudia Cowan, who works as a reporter for Fox News, released a statement following her mother’s passing this Easter Sunday.

“My wonderful mother passed away peacefully at 5:28 this evening. I was with her this morning and know she was waiting for me to return home safely to transition.”

“It’s fitting she chose to leave on Easter as it was one of her favorite holidays and now, of course, Easter will have a deeper significance for me and my family,”

Rush was born in Denver, Colorado, in 1927 and grew up in Santa Barbara, California. Barbara graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1948, where she began her career in the university’s theater program.

After performing at the local Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara and the Pasadena Playhouse, she signed with Paramount Pictures. Rush made her on-screen debut in the 1950 film “The Goldbergs.” In the following years, Barbara became a familiar presence on television and in movies throughout the 1950s.

Rush was awarded a Golden Globe in 1953 for her role in the film “It Came From Outer Space” (1953). Throughout her career, Barbara worked alongside some of the biggest stars of the decade, including Frank Sinatra, Paul Newman, and Rock Hudson.

Barbara continued working into the 1960s, when she pursued roles on popular television shows such as “Peyton Place,” “Batman,” and “7th Heaven.” In the mid-1980s, Rush made her Broadway debut in a one-woman show titled “A Woman of Independent Means,” as well as other regional performances.

Some of Rush’s most notable films include “When Worlds Collide” (1951), “Magnificent Obsession” (1954), and “The Young Philadelphians” (1959).
