Bethesda’s Fallout 5 Release: What We Know So Far

Fallout 4 launch trailer from Bethesda Softworks YouTube channel

Amazon Prime Video released the first season of its new live-action “Fallout” show, set in the universe of the immensely popular video game series of the same title. Since its release, it has become a global hit, as fans of the series get their first live-action look into the world of “Fallout”.

Following the success of the new series, the most recent game released from the franchise, “Fallout 4,” has experienced a significant resurgence in players, despite being released eight years ago. As well as reaching over 160,000 concurrent players on Steam.

While many fans have returned to Fallout 4 following the show’s success, it has also left many fans eager for details on a new Fallout game. While the news that Bethesda is indeed working on Fallout 5 may be exciting, the timeline may not be what you’re hoping for.

Todd Howard, the executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, has made several comments regarding the release and production of Fallout 5.

“Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well.”

We didn’t really hear anything more from Bethesda until earlier this April. Asked about the release timeline for Fallout 5 by IGN, Howard said that Elder Scrolls 6 was still Bethesda’s main focus, along with the looming Starfield Shattered Space update, “but that doesn’t mean that we’re not making plans for other things”.

The Standard

Despite the success of the live-action Fallout show on Amazon Prime, Bethesda plans to maintain its schedule and continue working on other projects, such as Elder Scrolls 6, which is set to release in 2026.

Unfortunately, for fans of the Fallout series, this implies that the release of Fallout 5 may not occur until 2028 at the earliest. Due to the lengthy development process that games can undergo, lasting up to six years, it is challenging to establish a specific timeframe for development at this early stage.
