Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has faced criticism following his speech at Benedictine College Graduation, where he discussed a variety of topics, including marriage, family, and religion.

Butker stated that beyond their achievements in their careers, women graduating are most excited about getting married and bringing children into the world. Harrison used his wife, Isabelle, as an example, saying that she never achieved her dream of having a career. However, she wouldn’t go back and change a single thing she did. Critics online immediately pointed out that being married to a professional athlete who makes millions of dollars a year is not a luxury that many people have.

Butker also claimed that Congress had recently passed a bill stating that something as simple as teaching the Biblical account of who killed Jesus could lead to imprisonment.

“Congress just passed a bill where stating something as basic as the Biblical teaching of who killed Jesus could land you in jail.”

The bill referred to as the Butker Bill was passed by the Republican-led House of Representatives. It aims to threaten federal funding for colleges and universities that do not restrict anti-Semitic speech. While the legislation intends to limit speech criticizing Israel’s handling of its ongoing conflict with Hamas, the broad language used would also apply to Butker’s example.

The issue with Butker’s assessment is that this legislation threatens university funding, not jail time, and has yet to be voted on in the Senate.

The three-time Super Bowl champion also stated.

“things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerative cultural values in media all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder.”  He specifically criticized Joe Biden for being pro-choice, saying that the president “proclaims his Catholic faith, but at the same time is delusional enough to make the sign of the cross during a pro-abortion rally.”

Many remember Butker’s commercial in 2022, where he promoted a failed Kansas ballot measure that would have ended constitutional protections for abortion in the state.
