Dak Prescott Gets Big Warning From Jerry Jones About His Future With The Dallas Cowboys

After the disappointment of the Dallas Cowboys’ 2023 season, which ended in an embarrassing 48-32 loss at home to the Green Bay Packers, led by first-year quarterback Jordan Love, Jerry Jones seems unsure whether he will extend the Cowboys’ quarterback’s contract.

While reports have surfaced of a possible extension that would amount to around sixty million a year for Prescott, Jerry seems to be entertaining the idea of letting his starting quarterback’s contract enter its final year.

In 2021, Dak signed a four-year, million deal with the team. Coming into the last year of Dak’s contract, the Dallas Cowboys have to decide whether they will extend Prescott beyond the 2024 season or accept the fifty-nine million dollar cap hit that comes with the last year of his previous contract.

When asked about a possible extension for Dak, Jerry Jones stated that it’s possible to go “all in” without extending Dak;they would just be “all in” in another area.

“We don’t need to, but we can if everybody wants to solve it (contract extension). You can get in and get on the same page and see if you can come to an agreement. If you can’t, what we have in place works. And so obviously, if you do it one way, you’ll be working through some of the other areas on the team in a different way, but you can’t really plan on that until you see when you’re there.”

With other stars like CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons needing new contracts soon, it would be beneficial for the Cowboys to try to free up as much money on this year’s salary cap as possible to further strengthen their roster.

Fans are hoping to see the Dallas Cowboys be buyers in this offseason’s free agency, which means the team will need to free up cap space in order to have the financial ability to sign the players they need.

If no deal is reached between Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys, Dak will become an unrestricted free agent in 2025, leaving the Cowboys without a starting quarterback.
