EXCLUSIVE: George Papadopoulos Speaks On Fall Of Syria, Implications On Trump Transition
Former Trump policy advisor George Papadopoulos spoke to Slingshot News about the fall of Syria this morning, outlining the reasoning behind the coordinated effort to topple the Middle Eastern nation, and the implications that this historic event will have on the Trump transition.
The author, who in 2019 published his book “Deep State Target: How I Got Caught in the Crosshairs of the Plot to Bring Down President Trump,” outlined Russia’s involvement with Syria, specifically as it pertains to the nation’s “support” for the Assad regime.
Papadopolous, a graduate of University College London and DePaul University, told Slingshot News that Russia’s key interest in Syria, all along, has not been to control the entire territory. The true goal of Russia’s relationship with Syria, the foreign policy advisor exclusively informed Slingshot News, was to build “warm water naval bases and air facilities on the Eastern side of the Mediterranean.”
The Russians already had these facilities in Ukraine and in mainland Russia, and was intent on expanding their militaristic geographical coverage. Through Assad, the Russians were able to successfully fulfill their goals, building both warm water naval bases and air facilities in Latakia and Tartus.
Russia Will Maintain Its Military Forces In Latakia and Tartus, Papadopulous Says
Papadopoulos told Slingshot News that the fall of Bashar Al-Assad will not change Russia’s established naval and air facilities in Syria. The Illinois native said,
“Assad became a useful leader for this to be implemented and now Russia has their forces stationed at Latakia and Tartus. The fall of Assad will not change this.”
The Wall Street Journal and other publications have characterized the fall of Syria as a “Saigon moment” for Russia, a characterization that Papadopoulos voiced tremendous doubts over.
What Assad didn’t understand in Syria is that he is not the leader.

Russia told him to meet with Turkey to normalize the effective partition of Syria into spheres of influence.
He refused.
As a result, Russia has likely made a deal with Turkey and Iran to keep its navy and air…
When Slingshot News asked Papadopoulos about the relationship between Russia and Turkey, and the role that the two nations may have played in the toppling of Syria, the seasoned political veteran told our outlet,
“Russia and Turkey have grown closer over the last four years to the point where Turkey is the only NATO member to have not imposed sanctions on Russia over Ukraine and has purchased the S-400 air defense system from Russia.
Russia and China seek to rewrite the global trade, finance and military order and are using BRICS to do so. Turkey has asked to join BRICS and losing Turkey to BRICS would be a massive win for Russia.”
The former Trump foreign policy advisor predicted that the Nation of Syria will be “carved up” in the same way that Lebanon and Syria were carved up last century during the Sykes-Picot.
China Wants Turkey To Join BRICS, and Syria May Be The Wedge They Have Chosen To Use
When Slingshot News posed the question of China’s potential involvement in the toppling of Assad in Syria, Papadopolous asserted to us that China’s main goal in the Middle East has always been to bolster BRICS in order to use Turkey as a ‘key transit route’ for its ‘Belt and Road Initiative’.
“China seeks to lead the new BRICS organization with Russia, Iran and Turkey as junior partners in this new alignment they hope becomes a reality,” Papadopoulos told Slingshot News.
The ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ is a Chinese program to develop infrastructure and increase trade and economic growth by connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe. Turkey’s geographical position makes the country essential to China’s interests as it pertains to the ‘Belt and Road Initiative.’
Papadopoulos claimed that sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States following the war in Ukraine have pushed the Russians and Chinese together, saying,
“Russia and China’s relationship has seen new bounds in terms of security and economics especially since sanctions were imposed on Russia over Ukraine.
It appears that China’s serious interest in Turkey may have played in role in the events we have seen unfold in Syria.
Iran Also Pushing For Turkey To Join BRICS, Papadopoulos Says
When Slingshot News asked the former Trump policy advisor about the timing of this toppling of Assad, Papdopoulos told us that the timing may have more to do with the proxy war between Iran and Israel.
Papadopoulos said, “Israel’s success in dismantling Hezbollah through both symmetric and asymmetric means greenlit the operation to cut off further resources reaching Hezbollah from Iran. Iran also does not have infinite resources to continue this proxy war with Israel and seeks to bolster ties with Russia, Turkey and China as a means to shield itself from an Israeli or American attack. Which they have been successful in doing.”
The political veteran warned that Iran may be prodding activity in Syria in order to drive Turkey into the arms of BRICS.
He also added that the toppling of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad has been in the interests of the United States and Israel for the last decade.
Papadopoulos: Trump’s Election May Have Prodded BRICS Into Aggressive Action To Bring On Turkey
When we asked the veteran foreign policy advisor how the election of Donald Trump may have impacted the fall of Syria under Assad, Papadopoulos outlined reasons that he believed the fall of Syria was orchestrated by members of BRICS in order to secure Turkey as a member nation.
He said,
“Trump has made it clear that countries who attempt to trade outside the dollar will be sanctioned. He did this because he understands the threat BRICS mean for the dollar as the global reserve currency and by extension the entire US economy.“
Understanding the looming threat of Trump taking office in January of 2025, Papadopoulos added that the fall of Syria was a ‘strategic move’ orchestrated by Russia. The author told Slingshot News,
“This was a strategic move by Russia to keep Turkey under its tutelage by basically giving northern Syria to Turkey.”
The former Trump foreign policy advisor then asserted once again that the fall of Syria was more about keeping Turkey ‘under the orbit’ of China and Russia, finishing, “Russia and China know that Trump’s economic populist ideas will bring countries back into the American fold and this was a move by Russia and China to strengthen BRICS by keeping Turkey under their orbit.”
President-elect Trump released a statement on the fall of Syria in the early morning hours of December 8th, saying,
“Assad is gone. He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer. There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place. They lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever. Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success.”
It has been reported this morning that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad failed to even alert his cabinet before fleeing his Nation in the dead of night.
Slingshot News will continue to keep our audience updated on the latest news concerning the fall of Syria. We sincerely thank Mr. Papadopoulos for taking the time to speak with us about this historic moment.
