Former Utah Representative Chris Cannon Dead At The Age Of 73

Chris Cannon, best known as the representative for Utah’s third Congressional District, passed away this week at the age of 73.

Cannon’s brother confirmed the news of Chris’s passing.

Cannon served from 1997 to 2009. In addition to serving as a representative, Chris also served on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law. He was one of the House impeachment managers tasked with prosecuting the impeachment case against Bill Clinton in the United States Senate.

Cannon played a role in Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial and was also involved in several subcommittees, including the House Government Reform Committee, House Resources Committee, and committees related to Criminal Justice, Drug Policy, Human Resources, and Regulatory Affairs.

The news of Cannon’s death has led to an outpouring of support from former colleagues and friends.

Utah senator Mike Lee released a statement following Cannon’s death.

“I’m stunned and saddened by breaking news of the death of my friend, former Congressman Chris Cannon,”

“I will miss his insights, encouragement, and friendship. Sharon and I mourn with his wife, Claudia, along with the couple’s children and extended family, all of whom are in our prayers as we who knew him try to come to terms with this heartbreaking news.”

Utah Governor Spencer Cox released a statement following Cannon’s death.

“Congressman Cannon worked hard for the people of Utah, and was a dedicated public servant working on criminal justice, drug policy, regulatory reform and other issues during his time in the House of Representatives,” he posted. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

John Curtis, who currently holds the position of representative for Utah’s third Congressional District released a statement following Cannon’s Death.

“He was one of a kind. A visionary with big ideas coupled with personality and thoughtful humor. He served the residents of Utah’s 3rd Congressional District well.”
