During a celebration of Greek Independence Day at the White House, President Joe Biden made a declaration that is causing mixed reactions online. The President can be quoted as saying during his remarks,

Later on during these remarks, President Biden discussed his history with the Greek community. The President said,

“One of the things that I learned early on was that I had a very close relationship with the Greek American community — for real! In the heart, and, I mean, real! In the church there, as well!”

Earlier this year, the President declared March 25th as Greek Independence Day. Biden’s declaration on that read,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 25, 2024, as Greek Independence Day: A National Day of Celebration of Greek and American Democracy. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
