New York City Mayor Eric Adams Calls For Changes To Sanctuary City Policy
New York City Mayor, Eric Adams made a statement this week in which he expressed his desire for New York City to end its sanctuary city policy.
Adams stated “I want to go back to the standards of the previous mayors who, I believe subscribe to my belief that people who are suspected of committing serious crimes in this city should be held accountable.”
When asked about due process for those accused of a crime, the mayor stated, “They didn’t give due process to the person that they shot or punched or killed.” Adam’s statements have received an outcry of support from conservatives, while the Democrats have stated that they believe the mayor’s proposal would violate the rights of those immigrants.
In Tuesday’s news conference, the mayor said that his top priority is for New Yorkers to remain safe.
“People, who like the many who are here, want to participate in the American experience should not be tarnished by the small numbers that are committing these violent acts. I think that we should make laws,” the mayor said.

The mayor’s comments have led to a wide range of responses from both sides of the political isle.
A representative from the New York Immigration Coalition, Murad Awawdeh, made a statement in which he accused Adams of “choosing to stoke division by ignoring evidence that makes clear that less crimes are committed in localities with sanctuary policies.”
Despite the fact that individuals who are suspected of a crime may be innocent, Adams seems determined to change New York’s policies to allow him to remove them regardless of their culpability for the crime.
Republican representatives have voiced their support for Adams’ proposal, City councilman Joe Borelli said he viewed it as a “welcomed change.”
After several crimes including migrants have rocked headlines across New York City, and America in recent months, it appears that Eric Adams is abandoning the sanctuary policies that he once promised to bring to New York.
