Brit Turner, the drummer for the legendary rock country Blackberry Smoke, has reportedly died at the age of 57. Turner reportedly passed away from a battle with glioblastoma, a fast-growing, aggressive brain tumor.
He had been diagnosed with this disease in 2022.
In addition to being the drummer for Blackberry Smoke, Turner actually co-founded the group in Atlanta, Georgia back in 2000. The band recorded with music icons like country singer George Jones, otherwise known as ‘The Possum,’ and Greg Allman of the Allman Brothers.
Their independently released album “Holding All the Roses,” hit number one on the Billboard charts in 2015, being the first independently released album to ever do so. Turner was a member of the band until the day that he died.
The band’s most recent release was just this year, an album entitled, “Be Right Here.” In 2017, during an interview with Echoes and Dust, Turner said,
It’s just a matter of sticking to it. People say, a lot of times, ‘Hey, I really love it that you guys did it your way!’ I said, ‘Well, we had no other choice, there were no other options!’ I mean no one was pulling up to our house in a limousine full of money and offering it to us, but we knew that we enjoyed what we did, when we play. That’s the way it is. You’ve got to enjoy it too, Man.
