When Donald Trump secured his victory in the 2024 Election against Vice President Kamala Harris, he guaranteed that the 2028 Presidential election would become the first Presidential contest since 2016 without an incumbent President on the ballot.

With Republicans and Democrats both lining up to become the next President of the United States in 2028, there are a few names that have already started to dip their feet in the water of Presidential politics. Slingshot News will be covering all of them.

It is expected that Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom may pursue a Presidential campaign, along with Democrat Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. Political committees promoting Beshear’s candidacy have already begun operating, and disseminating promotional material about the Kentucky Governor.

On the Republican side of the aisle, new Vice President J.D. Vance is expected to be the heavy favorite to take Donald Trump’s place as the nominee of the Republican ticket.

Vivek Ramaswamy, Tulsi Gabbard, Donald Trump Jr., and other potential candidates have had rumors swirl about their prospects in 2028 with no real evidence that any of them are seriously considering a run for the White House at this point. One man who is slated to be amongst the top contenders to become the Democrat nominee for President in 2028 is Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

Judging by Shapiro’s latest statement on President Trump’s pardon of January 6th rioters, it appears that Shapiro’s entrance into the race for President in 2028 may come sooner rather than later.

Shapiro Was Set To Become Vice Presidential Nominee In 2024 Before Top Dems Intervened, Insiders Say

Sources within the Democratic Party have informed Slingshot News that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was almost selected as the Vice Presidential nominee on the Democratic ticket in 2024 under Kamala Harris before top Democratic officials intervened to push Minnesota Governor Tim Walz instead.

Top Democrats were reportedly worried about Shapiro’s Jewish religious beliefs affecting voter turnout in key states such as Michigan and Minnesota, where a large percentage of Democrat voters are Muslim. This group of high-ranking Democrats included former President Barack Obama, our source tells us.

It turned out that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz had his own problems, and his track record of misstatements about his military service, accompanied by what some described as an ‘awkward’ personality surely did not assist Harris in 2024.

With the 2024 Election debacle behind them, the Democrats may look to Shapiro, among the most enthusiastic critics of President Donald Trump, in 2028. Having risen from the position of State Attorney General, Shapiro has been a rising star in the Democrat Party for the better part of a decade.

It appears that his ascent to national politics is simply a question of when not if. Had he appeared on the ballot with Harris in 2024, it’s safe to believe he could have energized the ticket in a way that Walz simply could not.

Shapiro Slams Trump Over ‘Troubling’ Statements About Migrants

In a recent video being circulated through major social media platforms Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, while speaking to a group of reporters, slammed President Donald Trump for pardoning some 1,500 individuals charged with crimes stemming from the Capitol riot January 6th, 2021.

“The president, in his first few hours as the leader of the free world, made a conscious decision to pardon people who assaulted cops, to pardon people that destroyed pieces of the Capitol,” Shapiro claimed. The Pennsylvania Governor then continued,

“To pardon people who didn’t respect law enforcement. That’s very, very troubling to me, and again, the President’s power on pardons is absolute. The fact that he chose to make this his signature issue on the first day, again, people who attack cops? As someone who respects law enforcement, as somebody who is invested in law enforcement, as someone who believes we need to treat our law enforcement with the dignity and respect they deserve, the idea that you would pardon someone who has been convicted of a crime for assaulting a police officer? It doesn’t sit right with me, and I don’t think it sits right with a lot of Americans.”

As one of the most outspoken critics of President Trump and his agenda, Governor Shapiro continues to position himself nicely for the 2028 Presidential contest.
