Amy Schumer has been diagnosed with a rare medical condition following a late night appearance that sparked questions about the comedian last week.

The diagnoses came after Schumer’s appearance to promote another one of her movies, The Life of Beth, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon caused millions of fans to begin discussing Schumer’s appearance.

Fans pointed out that Schumer’s face was unusually puffy, with some speculating that she may have received botox injections, or facial implants. Schumer immediately dismissed those critics, claiming that fans were simply “angry” that the actress is not ‘skinnier.’

Schumer initially said of her critics…

“I think they’re mad that I’m not thinner. I think they’re mad I’m not prettier. And that I still feel like I have a right to speak. And I think that they don’t want any woman to speak. I mean, what woman has ever opened her mouth and not been torn to shreds?”

It turns out that the ‘internet trolls’ Schumer was talking about weren’t actually trolls at all, but a saving grace. The comedian revealed yesterday that she has been diagnosed with Cushing’s Syndrome.

Cushing’s syndrome is a disorder that occurs when your body makes too much of the hormone cortisol over a long period of time. It can cause swelling, problems with blood sugar, and blood pressure.

Schumer said about her diagnosis,

While I was doing press on camera for my Hulu show, I was also in MRI machines four hours at a time, having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up. So finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I’m healthy was the greatest news imaginable. It has been a crazy couple weeks for me and my family.

The comedian added,

Aside from fears about my health, I also had to be on camera having the internet chime in. But thank God for that. Because that’s how I realized something was wrong. Just like when I realized I had named my son something that didn’t sound so good. The internet is undefeated, as they say
