Barack Obama Issues Statement On Trump Assassination Attempt In Pennsylvania

At a rally for his supporters in Butler, Pennsylvania, presumptive Republican Presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump was shot by an attendee with a rifle. The bullet reportedly nicked Trump’s ear, barely missing his head.

Trump was rushed off the stage shortly after attack by his Secret Service detail after the former President defiantly raised his fist. The President was then taken to a vehicle.

It is being reported that the supposed shooter was shot and killed by members of the Secret Service. The shooter also reportedly killed at least one supporter of the former President while firing. At least 5 shots were heard.

Former President Barack Obama issued a statement to his X feed today after the reported assassination attempt.

Obama’s statement was released prior to any statement from the Biden Administration, which has yet to release a statement on the shots fired on Trump at his Pennsylvania rally. It has been reported that President Biden was briefed on the incident.

Former President Barack Obama called for an end to political violence in his statement which read,

“There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.”

The Trump team has issued a statement following this incident stating that the former President is ‘fine,’ a statement that was released by his communications director Steven Cheung.

Police in Butler are reportedly investigating the incident as an assassination attempt against the former President.

Obama’s calls to end political violence were echoed by Democrat members of Congress, including California Democrat Representative Eric Swalwell.

A tremendously close call for the former President unfolded today in Pennsylvania, raising the question of the overall safety of his rallies.
