The Dallas Cowboys are expected to part ways with longtime left tackle Tyron Smith, who has widely been regarded as one of the the best left tackles in football since he entered the league in 2011, this offseason.
Smith, who was a first round draft choice of the Cowboys in the 2011 NFL draft has been nothing short of a superstar, and despite playing 13 seasons for the Cowboys, he is just 33 years old.
The veteran is expected to leave Dallas this offseason in free agency. Smith has not played a full season of games since 2015, having suffered a plethora of injuries over the last 8 seasons.
Smith only played two games in the 2020 season due to a severe neck injury. Despite his injuries, Smith was rated the best offensive lineman in the entire National Football League last season by Pro Football Focus.
Where Will Tyron Smith End Up?
It is speculated that the Kansas City Chiefs will be targeting Smith in free agency, all part of an attempt to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes going into the future. Smith would be a major addition to Kansas City, whose offensive line struggles have been notable for the last few seasons.
The Washington Commanders, who landed former Dallas defensive coordinator Dan Quinn this offseason, are also said to have interest in bringing in the left tackle. The Los Angeles Rams are also reportedly interested.
The Rams have failed to replace left tackle Andrew Whitworth since his retirement from the NFL following their Super Bowl championship.
Wherever he lands, Smith will bring with him a proverbial solid brick wall on the blindside of the quarterback he protects, as he did for Dak Prescott and Tony Romo for so many years.
He will undoubtedly end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame when all is said and done, going down as one of the greatest offensive lineman that has ever played in the league.
