Dallas Cowboys legend Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, who is also the leading rusher in the history of the National Football League, recently spoke out about the contract situation of Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver Ceedee Lamb.

Lamb is currently refusing to participate in mandatory practices, demanding that he receive a contract extension before he returns to the team for this season. This practice is often referred to as ‘holding out,’ and his become more of a commonly used tactic by players in recent years.

Ironically, Smith was amongst the most prominent stars to begin the ‘holding out’ phenomenon when he failed to report to the Dallas Cowboys after a Super Bowl championship winning season in 1992 until the third game of the 1993 season. Smith would go on to win another Super Bowl that season, becoming the first Dallas Cowboys player to win the NFL MVP award.

Lamb was amongst the top performing wideouts in all of football last year. Despite consistent subpar ball-placement from his quarterback Dak Prescott, Lamb was able to haul in over 1,700 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.

Legendary Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith is rushing to the defense of the current Cowboys star, who is reportedly demanding over $32 Million per season, claiming that Lamb is an ‘extremely important’ asset to the Cowboys roster.

Smith said in a recent podcast appearance,

“With CeeDee and the Dallas Cowboys today… let’s make this very clear. He is a very, very valuable asset to the Dallas Cowboys. He is a very, very valuable asset to Dak Prescott. Without him on the football field, they’re putting all of the pressure on Dak Prescott now.”

The Cowboys legend continued,

“And that is unacceptable. Because every quarterback of his caliber should have quality people to throw the ball to. Not no Plan B or no Plan C or no Plan D guy. He should be in a position, as your franchise quarterback, he should be in a position to be successful. And right now you putting him behind the eight ball. And that is not right. And that’s how I see it.”
