Former Houston Astros Prospect Ronny Garcia Dies Aged 24

Ronny Garcia, a former prospect for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball, has reportedly passed away at the age of 24. Garcia tragically died in an automobile accident.

Garcia’s father also reportedly passed away in the accident alongside of his son. This tragedy has completely destroyed their lovely family.

The accident occurred on the Las Galeras-Samaná highway in Samaná, Dominican Republic. Due to his immense talent, Garcia was signed by Houston as a pitching prospect at just 16 years old.

The former prospect had hoped to make it to the Major Leagues one day, a dream that will now never be realized.

The Houston Astros released the following statement on Garcia’s death,

We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Astros prospect, Ronny Garcia. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.

During his time in the MLB farm system, Garcia notched 14 saves in 122 total appearances, with 200 strikeouts in 186.2 innings. He allowed 170 hits, 71 earned runs, eight home runs and 100 walks.

The Fayetteville Woodpeckers, a farm league team of the Houston Astros, released the following statement on Garcia’s shocking, tragic, and unexpected death. That statement reads,

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Ronny García. Ronny spent parts of three seasons with Fayetteville, always carrying a smile around the ballpark. He was a talented pitcher and a beloved teammate. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

Garcia’s talent is showcased by the fact that he was selected by an MLB farm team to play for their organization at just 16 years old. The fact that he lost his life in a traffic accident is simply heartbreaking.

The World mourns the loss of this young man, and his dedication to the game of baseball today. We also mourn the loss of his father. Rest in peace, Ronny Garcia!
