Former MMA and UFC Fighter Geane Herrera Dies At 33
Geane Herrera, an MMA fighter who briefly competed in the UFC and also participated in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident this week at the age of 33.
The Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship confirmed Herrera’s passing in a social media post.
The Herrera family released a statement following Geane’e passing.
“Our family is devastated by the tragic loss of our beloved Geane Carlos Herrera known in the professional fighting world as ‘La Pulga’, whose life was cut way too short at only 33 years-old,”
“Geane leaves behind a 16 year-old son, his 3-month pregnant girlfriend, mother, father, sisters, a brother and a family that loves him and will deeply miss him.”
“Geane was full of life, always trying to live life to the fullest, he was a dedicated athlete with big dreams of making a difference and leaving his print in this world. He was such a happy go lucky person that left a mark in everyone that came into his life.”

Herrera was born in Duarte, California, but moved to Cali, Colombia, with his mother and sister when he was a baby.After spending the first nine years of his life in Colombia, Gean’s family moved back to the United States.
Geane made his professional mixed martial arts debut in March 2011. After competing in regional organizations in the Southeastern United States and amassing an 8-0 record, Herrera signed with the UFC after defeating Josh Rave in July 2014.
Herrera made his UFC debut against Ray Borg on August 8, 2015, at UFC Fight Night 73, where he lost by unanimous decision. In his next fight, Herrera was called in as a short-notice replacement to face Joby Sanchez on December 11, 2015, at the Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale. He defeated his opponent with a TKO in the final minute of the second round.Geane went on to compete in two more UFC fights in 2016, both of which he lost by unanimous decision.
In 2019, Herrera was set to participate in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. However, the fight never took placedue to unknown reasons. Eventually, in 2021, Herrera made his debut in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, where he faced Abdiel Velazquez. In the second round, Geane won by TKO.
