This week, iconic actor James Van Der Beek, best known for his roles in “Dawson’s Creek” and “Varsity Blues,” passed away at the age of 48.

Born on March 8, 1977, in Connecticut, Van Der Beek discovered his love for acting in high school, after playing Danny Zuko in a production of “Grease.” While his love for acting continued to grow, the actor continued pursuing his education, attending Duke University.

Before he graduated, Van Der Beek dropped out after scoring the role of Dawson Leery on “Dawson’s Creek.” The show went on to air for six seasons between 1998 and 2003. The show featured Van Der Bleek alongside costars Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and Michelle Williams.

The show followed its star characters through their complicated lives in Massachusetts and chronicled their paths through high school and college.

In 2009 the actor met his soon-to-be wife, whom he married the following year in 2010. Since then, the couple has had six children, named Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, Joshua, Jeremiah, and Olivia.

After his time on “Dawson’s Creek,” Van Der Beek went on to appear in both film and television, such as roles in “Varsity Blues,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Texas Rangers,” “Dancing with the Stars,” and “Labor Day.”

Later in life, Van Der Beek detailed how much he valued spending time with his wife and six children, stating it felt like he “hit the lottery.”

The beloved actor will be missed by family, friends, and fans across the world.

Rest in peace!
