The legendary DJ Mister Cee, who is credited with discovering and working with the iconic hip-hop star Notorious B.I.G., passed away this week at the age of 57. No cause of death has been released.
Cee is not only credited with the discovery of the star but also produced his first studio album. Cee, also known as “The Finisher,” was a longtime DJ at the popular radio station Hot 97, where he began working in the 1990s.
Hot 97 released a statement citing the DJ’s family confirming his death.
“As a family at HOT 97 and WBLS, we’re deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Mister Cee,”
“He wasn’t just a DJ; he was a pillar of our stations, bringing joy to countless listeners with his legendary Throwback at Noon and Friday Night Live sets.”
“Mr. Cee’s influence stretched far beyond the airwaves, shaping the very fabric of NYC’s DJ culture. Our hearts are heavy as we send our love and condolences to his family and the fans whose lives he touched through his music. Rest easy, Mr. Cee. Your legacy will live forever.”

DJ Mister Cee, born Calvin LeBrun, is a New York staple known for making a lasting impact on hip-hop for years.
Another artist that Cee is credited with helping to emerge is Fetty Wap from New Jersey, who gained fame with his song “Trap Queen” in 2015. Before the song’s release, Cee heaped praise on the song and Fetty Wap.
“I want to get this record on before it gets to the city, because it’s going to get to New York,” Mister Cee’s quoted as saying in the magazine. “The name of the song is ‘Trap Queen.'”

LeBrun was born in Brooklyn, New York City. He went to high school with the popular rapper Big Daddy Kane, where their friendship began. After graduating from high school, the two released Kane’s 1988 debut album “Long Live the Kane” together, with Cee producing.
There is no doubt that DJ Mister Cee had a lasting impact on the hip-hop community, not only by helping bring stars into the spotlight but also through his work at Hot 97.
