Chris Gauthier, the actor best known for his roles in hit shows such as “Once Upon a Time,” “Eureka,” and “Smallville,” passed away last week at the age of 48 after a brief illness.
Chris’s manager stated on Sunday that Gauthier had died “suddenly and unexpectedly” due to a brief illness. Chris’s agency, Tristar Appearances/Event Horizon Talent, also released a statement following his death, which was obtained by PEOPLE.
“We can confirm that our friend and client, Chris Gauthier, passed away on Friday morning, February 23, at the age of 48 after a brief illness,” the statement read. “As a beloved Vancouver-based character actor, Chris shared his talents with so many of us both on television and in film. His loss is felt not just by his fans but by those of us who were lucky enough to know him more personally. On behalf of his family, we do ask for privacy during this time so that they are able to grieve properly.”
Throughout his career, Gauthier accumulated over 50 credits in both film and television, including hits like “Freddy vs. Jason,” which was released in 2003. Chris also appeared on hit shows such as “Supernatural,” “Harper’s Island,” and “Joe Pickett.”
Chris also appeared in numerous Hallmark Christmas movies, such as “Christmas Cookies”, “If I Only Had Christmas”, and “Ms. Christmas Comes to Town,” which was his most recent work, was released in October 2023.
As well as his fans, his co-worker at Tristar Appearances, Chad Colin, mourned the loss of his friend on Facebook.
“This still doesn’t feel real. How can it? … A world without you in it is a much darker place. So much so that when his wife reached out to me yesterday with the news, I wept tears of disbelief for hours.”
Chris is survived by his wife, Erin, and his two sons, Ben and Sebastian.
Rest in peace!
