Dame Shirley Conran, who received her dameship just days ago, has reportedly died at the age of 91. In addition to being a prolific author, Conran was also a campaigner.
She began writing at 30 years old in 1982, highlighting that it is never too late in life to begin pursuing your passion. Her novels include Savages, Crimson and Tiger Eyes. She was diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) in her late 30s
Her son, designer son Jasper Conran, announced his mother’s tragic death in a post made to his Instagram account. She passed away at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
Former Prime MInister Liz Truss said the following about Conran following her unfortunate passing,
She was a life force, incredibly generous and a dedicated campaigner for math education.
I am very grateful for all the encouragement and support she gave me.

One of her best-selling books was Superwoman and Lace. Conran received her damehood last week for her services to mathematics education.

British author and journalist Dame Shirley Conran has died aged 91 days after receiving a damehood.
Writing on Instagram, her designer son Jasper Conran said his mother passed away as he praised doctors and staff at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
“Shirl girl has flown away, a lark ascending,” Mr Conran wrote.
Former Prime Minister Liz Truss, who made the author a dame in her resignation honours list, described Dame Shirley as “life force”.
Known for her best-selling books including Superwoman and Lace, she received her damehood last week for her services to mathematics education, having founded the Maths Anxiety Trust.
