St. Louis Cardinals Part-Owner Passes Away From Lengthy Illness

Donna “DeDe” DeWitt Lambert, a part-owner of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, has reportedly succumbed to a lengthy illness, and has passed away at the age of 84.

Lamber was the sister of Bill DeWitt Jr., who is the principal owner and CEO of the St. Louis Cardinals. She is also the aunt of Bill DeWitt III, the Cardinals president.

She is among the owners who purchased the Cardinals from Anheuser-Busch in 1996. Her passing will undoubtedly be tremendously difficult for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball family.

A 2001 article about the owners of the St. Louis Cardinals says the following about Lambert,

Donna “DeDe” DeWitt Lambert is DeWitt’s sister. Lambert, 61, is a private investor and board member of Mississippi Valley Bancshares. She owns 117,360 shares of Mississippi Valley Bancshares worth more than $4.2 million as of May 2.

The Cardinals had an uncharacteristically poor season last year, finishing just 71-91 on the season. Since the Cardinals were taken over by new ownership in 1996, they have been amongst the best franchises in all of baseball.

They were steady World Series competitors during their years with Albert Pujols, winning the World Series in both 2011 and 2006. Prior to the change of ownership in 1996, the Cardinals last World Series had come in 1982. The franchise has 11 World Series titles all together.

Donna “DeDe” DeWitt Lambert will go down as a positive influence, along with the rest of the owners who took over the franchise with her in 1996. Fox2Now reports on her death,

The St. Louis Cardinals organization announced Monday that Donna “DeDe” DeWitt Lambert passed away Saturday.

She passed away at 84 years old due to a lengthy illness, according to a release.

Lambert was the sister of Bill DeWitt Jr., the Cardinals principal owner and chief executive officer, and the aunt of Bill DeWitt III, the Cardinals president.

She was also one of the original members of the group that purchased the MLB team from Anheuser-Busch in 1996.
