With the 2026 NFL offseason underway, Cowboys fans have already shifted their attention to putting together a playoff-caliber team in 2026. Aside from the team’s two selections in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Dallas will need to look to free agency to rebuild a much maligned defensive unit.
New defensive coordinator Christian Parker has fans hopeful to see a new-look Dallas defense, alongside key additions like Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams in 2025. Along with the change in leadership, fans are hoping to see Dallas’ front office be active in free agency.
1) Reid Blankenship, Safety
Long-time Philadelphia Eagle Reid Blankenship is a top candidate to land in Dallas this offseason if he were to part ways with the birds. Aside from the 24-year-old safety’s obvious connections to defensive coordinator Christian Parker, Dallas also is in desperate need of help in its secondary.
Although it may seem obvious, George Pickens is a must-sign this offseason for the Cowboys, as his breakout with quarterback Dak Prescott in 2025 took the league by storm. Pickens racked up 1,429 yards and 9 touchdowns, with Prescott throwing 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns.
2) Trey Hendrickson, Defensive End
Cincinnati Bengals star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson will also become a free agent this offseason. Following trade deadline rumors of interest from the Cowboys, Hendrickson would be a homerun signing for the Cowboys this offseason.
After starting his career in New Orleans, Henrickson joined the Cincinnati Bengals, where he has recorded 61 sacks since 2021. The 31-year-old edge rusher would add a much-needed x factor to the Cowboys’ defense.
Certainly Dallas won’t solve all of their problems in free agency, but with the right moves, paired with a good draft, it could be just what Dallas needs to get back into the playoffs.
