President Donald Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under Secretary Kristi Noem have faced widespread backlash over Operation Metro Surge, an immigration enforcement operation launched in December 2025 that has seen a surge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and Border Patrol personnel in the Twin Cities region.
In the wake of federal agents killing and shooting two U.S. citizens Renée Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Minnesota, public sentiment towards ICE and the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts has only gotten worse, culminating in the removal of Gregory Bovino from his position as the Border Patrol’s “commander-at-large.”
While the administration has toned down their rhetoric, walking back on labeling Good and Pretti as “domestic terrorists,” Trump continues to show little to no remorse over their unnecessary deaths.
Trump Downplays The Murders Of Two US Citizens By Federal Agents
During a recent interview on NBC News with Tom Llamas, Trump discussed a variety of topics, including his views on immigration and the administration’s efforts in carrying out those views.
While rambling about his usual spiel of securing the borders and lamenting illegal immigrants “pouring” into the country, Trump eventually discussed his administration’s immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis, addressing the deaths of Good and Pretti.
Trump claimed “it’s bad” that these two U.S. citizens needlessly died, but he seemed to be more concerned about their deaths negatively affecting his image. “You do thousands of arrests, you arrest thousands of rapists, you arrest thousands of the worst people, you arrest the drug dealers. I mean, we had drug kingpins, we had murderers… two people out of tens of thousands, okay? And you get bad publicity,” Trump bemoaned. “Nobody talks about all of the murderers that we’re taking out of our country.”
“But it was two Americans who died, you know,” Llamas interjected. However, Trump outright ignored and dismissed Llamas’ comment.
