Following his breakout season for the Dallas Cowboys this year, star wide receiver George Pickens is set to become a free agent this offseason.
Recent reports suggest that the Cowboys are willing to “tag and trade” Pickens in an attempt to add draft capital, without dishing out an expensive long-term deal for the wideout. It is not known yet what Dallas migth acquire in a trade involving their newest star.
After trading away superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons this offseason following stalled contract negotiations, Cowboys fans are rightfully concerned about the front office’s ability to keep #3 in Dallas long term. Pickens quickly became a fan favorite last season, and showed great chemistry with quarterback Dak Prescott.
Despite the team falling short of the playoffs, it is hard to discount the firepower of a Pickens-Lamb tandem on the field, with both receivers surpassing 1,000 yards and quarterback Dak Prescott throwing 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Losing Pickens in Dallas would almost certainly lead to a regression for an offensive unit that put up an average of 30 points a game in 2025.
Cowboys players and fans continue to call for owner/general manager Jerry Jones to ink a long-term deal, which would solidify the formidable force that is the Dallas Cowboys offense.
With two selections in the top twenty picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, fans are hoping that the team’s defensive struggles will be addressed instead of having to replace a key component like Pickens on offense.
