The New England Patriots, now under the control of new head coach Jerod Mayo after the departure of longtime coach Bill Belichick, are reportedly finalizing a shocking trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
News broke this morning that the Patriots are reportedly sending former starting quarterback Mac Jones, who was selected in the first round of the NFL draft by the Patriots in 2021. Jones, just 25, saw limited success as the starting quarterback for New England.
The trade will allegedly include Jacksonville sending their sixth round pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft for Jones. Just 3 years after being drafted in the first round, with hopes that he would ultimately replace Tom Brady, was just traded for a sixth round pick. Things have surely changed in New England.
The trade will not be official until March 13th, which is the beginning of the new league year. The NFL reports,

Jones is being traded by the Patriots to the Jaguars in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round draft pick (No. 192), NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Sunday, per sources.
Any trade cannot be made official until the start of the new league year on March 13.
The Patriots had been fielding trade calls this week from teams interested in acquiring the former first-round pick, and it didn’t take long for an agreement to materialize. Rapoport reports that four teams were in the mix for Jones until Sunday’s development.
