U.S. Officially Drops Aid To Gaza: What You Need To Know
The United States officially airdropped humanitarian aid on the Gaza strip today after President Joe Biden announced that his Administration would be sending additional aid to the area yesterday.
The aid was announced after talks of a ceasefire fell through, sparking concerns of a famine in Gaza. Other nations, including France, have started dropping food into the region.
Three C-130 planes reportedly dropped 38,000 meals contained within 66 bundles into Gaza this morning at 8:30 am EST. The effort was reported coordinated with the Royal Jordanian Air Force, who has also been sending aid.
The food was reportedly dropped in southwest Gaza, on the beach along the territory’s Mediterranean coast. The IDF has alleged that Gazans attacked food trucks that entered the territory have been torn apart, and even killed some Gazans in the fray of chaos after they entered the region.
“This morning humanitarian aid trucks entered northern Gaza, residents surrounded the trucks and looted the supplies being delivered. As a result of the pushing, trampling and being run over by the trucks, dozens of Gazans were killed and injured.“

115 Gazans were reportedly killed on Thursday while trying to seek aid, while another 750 were injured. Israeli forces allegedly opened fire on a crowd of citizens after chaos erupted during a delivery of aid into the territory.
Israel asserts that their troops only opened fire on the crowd after they began to feel endangered.
There will reportedly be additional air drops in the region over the weekend, as the Biden Administration continues to attempt to handle this situation. The White House said Friday that they would learn how to keep the aid in Gaza from ending up in the possession of Hamas by ‘learning as they go.’
AP reported,
Asked how the U.S. would keep the supplies from falling into Hamas’ hands, White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the U.S. would learn over the course of the aerial operation.
“There’s few military operations that are more complicated than humanitarian assistance airdrops,” he said. Kirby said Pentagon planners will identify drop locations aiming to balance getting the aid closest to where it’s needed without putting those on the ground in harm’s way from the drops themselves.
“The biggest risk is making sure nobody gets hurt on the ground,” Kirby said. He said the U.S. is also working through how the airdropped aid will be collected and distributed once it’s on the ground.
