Will Trump Choose Tulsi Gabbard As His Vice President?

After former President Trump notched his fifth straight Republican Presidential Primary victory in Michigan on Tuesday, receiving over 68% of the vote, speculation has started to grow as to who Trump will select as his running mate heading into the 2024 Election.

Las Vegas odds show that Trump is the odds-favorite to win the 2024 Presidential election, meaning that whoever he selects as Vice President would most likely be the favorite to represent the Republican ticket in a distant 2028 Election. Being that Trump has already served a term as President, if elected in 2024, he would not be eligible to run for President in 2028.

Whoever Trump selects as his running mate will most likely have the best odds of becoming the face of the Republican Party after Trump is gone, making the decision extremely consequential.

Among the names reportedly being considered for the job include former Trump Administration official Ben Carson, who served as U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Trump White House. Carson also ran for President in 2016, and prior to his political career, was among the most highly respected neurosurgeons in the world.

Other individuals reportedly being considered for the position include Representative Elise Stefanik, former 2024 Republican Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem.

While all of these candidates are highly qualified, and maybe unsurprising, there is one candidate on the list making headlines like nobody else.

Trump is also reportedly considering selecting former Democrat Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard as his running mate in 2024.

Gabbard represented Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013-2021. From 2013-2016, Gabbard served as a Vice Chair to the Democrat National Committee.

She eventually ran for President during the 2020 Election, being defeated by Joe Biden in the race. The Lt. Colonel made headlines during that race by challenging current Vice President Kamala Harris in the Primary debates, highlighting Harris’ prosecutorial record on marijuana arrests.

Gabbard pointed out, during a nationally televised Democrat Primary debate, that Harris had prosecuted over 1,500 Californians for marijuana use, but admitted to smoking it herself on the campaign trail, even laughing about the situation.

After losing her Presidential bid, Gabbard was alienated from the Democrat Party, and retired from Congress in 2021. It should be noted that, if selected by Trump as Vice President, Gabbard would once again take on Kamala Harris in a potential Vice Presidential debate.

In October of 2022, Gabbard announced that she left the Democrat Party entirely to become an Independent, telling viewers during an episode of her podcast,

I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic party. It’s now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers, driven by cowardly wokeness.

Gabbard, a combat veteran who was once a ranking member of the Democrat Party leadership, has pivoted on many key issues in recent years, publicly denouncing the Party that she once helped to lead.

The former Democrat Congresswoman is a vocal opponent of U.S. involvement in the war in Ukraine, telling Sean Hannity in 2022,

If the moral obligation is to do what we can to end the suffering of the Ukrainian people, who are suffering death and destruction, it’s to bring about an end to this war as quickly as possible. President Biden has failed to do that, and he has failed the American people, the people of Ukraine, and the world in doing that.

Being somebody who served as a combat veteran in the Iraq war, Gabbard is obviously committed to avoiding conflict, something that former President Trump has been vocal about. Trump famously said about the war in Ukraine that his solution would be to, “stop the killing.”

On many key issues, including the Israel-Hamas conflict, the war in Ukraine, and the Second Amendment, Gabbard and Trump may now agree more than they disagree on the major political issues of our time, possibly highlighting a larger American political realignment heading into the 2024 Election.

Adding to speculation that she may be on the shortlist to become Vice President, Gabbard is allegedly scheduled to be a keynote speaker at an event for the 917 Society at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago club on March 7th.

Controversial political operative Roger Stone has said that he is ‘intrigued’ by the idea that Trump, who has been close friends with Stone for over 40 years, would select Gabbard as his running mate.

During a recent appearance Stone made speaking before a local Republican club in Florida, he made a comparison between Gabbard and former Republican President Ronald Reagan, who Stone worked for in the 1980s. Stone said at that event,

“She’s a LT. Col in the U.S. Army Reserves. She is a veteran of both Iraq and Kuwait. She is a former Democrat, former Democrat member of Congress. She is a strong proponent of the Second Amendment…

My friends say, “Well, she was a Democrat! She was a liberal Democrat!”

Folks, Ronald Reagan was a Democrat. In fact, he was a very liberal Democrat. He was a ‘New Deal’ Democrat.”

Stone also interviewed Gabbard on his WABC radio on February 25th, 2024.

Further highlighting her split from the Democratic Party, during a recent appearance at CPAC, Gabbard said about the coming 2024 Election,

It’s the Democratic elite and the Swamp Creatures in Washington who are doing all that they possibly can to keep us, the American People from a very simple thing, having freedom to choose who we want to be our next president

Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has changed quite a bit over the last decade, a change that has pushed her into agreement on many major political issues with former President Donald Trump.

Considering that Trump is seeing a higher popularity rating than when he was in Office, Gabbard’s drift towards Trump may signal an overall political sentiment of the Nation that could manifest itself at the 2024 ballot box.

It appears, by all indicators, that Tulsi Gabbard is a serious contender for Vice President. It remains to be seen who Trump will select, but if he chooses Gabbard, it will be extremely interesting to see how much of the Independent and Democrat vote that she attracts to the Trump ticket.
